Description

4 small parchment fragments, heavily damaged, trimmed, and reused. One fragment (4) preserves only traces of a black tetragram, while another (3) appears to be the earliest and is written in a hand related to caroline minuscule, with earlier Luxeuil-style traces (notably in the forms of r and c). This fragment uses adiastematic campo aperto neumes; under infrared light, the recto reveals pigment glow on the letter “N,” now orange, which indicates original verdigris (common before the 12th century). Transmitted light further shows alignment of text lines front to back of the folio. The other two fragments (1 and 2) appear to derive from the same source: script in a caroline-related minuscule of somewhat later date (possibly 12th century), with adiastematic campo aperto notation (likely Italian). Their content concerns the Office of St. Paul, with abbreviated rubrication and formulaic layout. Fragment 1 is faded and shows repair marks. Fragments 1 and 2 are nearly continuous, with the recto on both having antiphons for the first nocturn of Matins, and the verso parts of the responsories.
