Summary
Antiphonal/breviary, two leaves, Spanish, early 16th century. No musical notation. 57 x 38 cm
Liturgical Occasions

Epiphany; Easter Wednesday and Easter Thursday.

Description

Two vellum leaves containing texts--but no music--for chants for Epiphany and Easter week; unlike a typical breviary, does not appear to contain collects or readings.

Described by McGill in 2018 as "Antiphonal, two leaves, Italian, early 16th century"; the current description calls it an "early 16th-century breviary written in Italy."

The text hand has typically Spanish/Iberian traits, such as the slant of the lowercase "a" and the diagonal taper of "h," which descends below the text line. The hand suggests a 16th century date.
Rubrics "In Epiphania" and "Post P(h)ascha" at the top of each page in red; visibly ruled for 17 lines on all pages.
Text for chants and reference rubrics ("ut in ii. Noct.) slightly smaller than that of the main text.

Simple red one-line initials begin most chants, but the Magnifact and Benedictus antiphons, and one antiphons beginning a second nocturn, are two lines in height and enclosed in a decorative box in blue ink.

Several later foliations. On the recto of the Epiphany page, "13" in the upper right; on the verso, "35". No visible foliation on the Easter page. Both folios have catchwords ("illumine", "metum") on the verso.
