Summary
Missal, one leaf, damaged, 2nd half of the 14th century. No musical notation.
Liturgical Occasions

Common of several Martyrs.

Description

Single leaf from a missal, likely late-14th or 15th-century German or Flemish, with no musical notation. 350x235 mm., writing surface 255x179 mm.
Recovered from a binding and damaged as a result; the title "Aristoteles Poetica" is still visible in the margin on the verso.
Foliated with what appears to be "Pvii" on recto. "127" (in Arabic numerals) appears in left margin of recto, apparently indicating the location of the epistle readings.
Ruled in what appears to be light ink for two columns in 33 lines.
Text in Northern textualis; chant texts slightly smaller than those for readings; rubrics in red; majuscules also stroked with red.
2-line red Lombard on recto opening reading; signle-line lombards alternating red and blue for Alleluia verses. The four Gospel readings provided all open with a large (6-12 line) I in either red or blue.

Described by the library as follows (https://mcgill.on.worldcat.org/oclc/1303925890):
"One damaged vellum leaf from the Sanctorale of a mid to late 14th-century missal of unknown origin ; text, 33 lines, arranged in 2 columns, in brown ink with some red-stroked letters ; liturgical rubrics in red.

Decoration: alternating blue and red plain initials (A, of Alleluia) on the recto ; each initial (I, of In illo tempore) beginning the Evangelical texts is decorated with a long curved solid colour (alternating red and blue) penstroke extending down the left side of the column.

Damage: the fragment was used for binding ; the text has faded in areas, has wormholes, is cut off on the four corners and the hinge margin has been completely cut off.

Commune plurimorum Martyrum extra Tempus Paschale (Pro pluribus Martyribus) Mass texts."
